The right to make reproductions, derivative works, and other rights to use certain materials owned by Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) may be granted on a case-by-case basis.  Licenses granting the right to make reproductions of materials are provided for certain purposes in response to written requests and proposals submitted that describe the intended use in detail. All requests for reproductions and other use are now being administered and handled through the Artists Rights Society (ARS). Individuals and/or organizations which would like to obtain a license for reproduction must obtain permission through ARS unless otherwise indicated on this Website. MICA reserves the right to deny permission to any request regarding materials it owns. Please also note that ARS, on behalf of MICA, may charge licensing fees to organizations or individuals for the use of reproductions of materials.  Copyright licensing fees may be waived for scholarly publications if they meet criteria acceptable to ARS and MICA.  If your publication is intended for scholarly purposes, please provide detailed supporting information in your application for a license to use the image(s).

Please Note: Permission will not be granted under any circumstances to reproduce or license the use of:

  1. a detail of any painting created by Morris Louis which is not reproduced within one page of an image of the entire work of art
  2. a black and white reproduction of any painting by Morris Louis except under extreme circumstances to be determined on a case-by-case basis, or
  3. a reproduction of any painting by Morris Louis over which any lettering or other image is superimposed
